Eyebrow transplant in Albania

An eyebrow transplant rebuilds a brow with single-hair grafts taken from the scalp, usually 200 to 400 per brow, placed almost flat against the skin so they lie down rather than stand up. It is the smallest operation this clinic does and the least forgiving: a brow is two hand-spans from the face of whoever is talking to you, and every hair points somewhere. Who asks for this

Over-plucking that never grew back, usually from years of thinning the brow to a line. The follicles that were pulled repeatedly stop producing, and no cream restores them.

Thin brows by inheritance, where the tail has always been absent and the body is sparse.

Scars: a cut through the brow, a burn edge, a surgical line. Grafts into scar tissue take at a lower rate, so a scarred brow is normally planned in two light passes.

Loss from a medical cause, such as thyroid disease or an autoimmune condition, which has to be diagnosed and stable before anybody transplants into it. An active condition destroys new grafts as reliably as it destroyed the original hair.

The design is the operation

A brow is drawn with a pencil while you sit upright and look straight ahead, then checked while you raise your eyebrows, because the shape moves with the muscle. Four measurements set it: where the head of the brow starts relative to the inner corner of the eye, where the peak sits relative to the outer edge of the iris, where the tail ends on a line from the nostril through the outer corner of the eye, and how thick the body is allowed to be.

Then direction, which is what separates a brow that reads as real from one that does not. At the head, hairs point upwards and slightly outwards. Across the body they turn and lie flat, the upper row angling down and the lower row angling up so they cross in the middle and make the brow look dense. At the tail everything sweeps outwards. Density is deliberately lower than a natural brow. Packing hairs as tightly as they grow in a real eyebrow produces a shape that looks drawn, because transplanted hair is slightly coarser and it has no fine fuzz around it.

What you are taking on for life

Scalp hair keeps the growth cycle it had on your head, which is measured in years rather than months. In an eyebrow that means it will not stop at eyebrow length, and you will be trimming every two to three weeks and brushing the hairs into place with a spoolie. Patients who understand this before surgery are happy with it. Patients who are told afterwards feel misled, which is why it is on this page rather than in a footnote.

Tinting is fine once healing is complete. Plucking to shape the edges can resume after the first month, and the transplanted hairs respond to plucking exactly as any hair does, so what is pulled out repeatedly can be lost again.

FAQ

How many grafts does one eyebrow take?

Between 200 and 400 in almost every case. A tail that has disappeared can be done with fewer than 150. A brow being built from very little, where both the body and the tail are absent, sits at the upper end. More is not better here: a brow packed beyond what the skin and the design can carry looks blocky, and the extra grafts are a cost to your donor area for no visual gain.

Will the new hairs fall out?

The transplanted hairs shed between weeks two and six, which alarms people who have not been warned, and then they regrow from month three or four. That is the normal cycle for every graft in every part of the body. Once established, the transplanted hair is permanent; hair that was not transplanted can still thin, so a brow thinning from a medical cause needs that cause treated.

Can it be done over an eyebrow tattoo?

Usually yes. Pigment in the skin does not stop a graft growing, although heavily scarred skin from repeated tattooing takes grafts less reliably, and that is assessed from the photographs. The transplanted hair grows through and over the pigment, and most patients let the tattoo fade rather than having it worked on again.

Does it look natural straight away?

No. For the first days it looks like a procedure, then it looks like nothing at all for a couple of months, then it starts to look like a brow. Anyone showing you a photograph of a finished eyebrow taken a week after surgery is showing you the grafts before they shed, which is the one moment the brow looks full and means nothing.
