One list a day, and what it buys you

A high-volume clinic can run eight or ten patients through a building in a day because the work is split: one person extracts, a second opens, a third implants, and the doctor moves between rooms. It is a legitimate model and it is why package prices in the big medical-tourism markets are what they are. It also means nobody watches your donor area for six hours.

With one list a day the timings change. The hairline is drawn with you sitting up, in a mirror, with your face relaxed, and it is redrawn if you do not like it. Extraction is paced against how the donor is behaving rather than against the next patient’s arrival time. If a session needs to stop at 2,600 grafts because the donor has given enough, it stops, and nobody has to explain to a waiting room why the schedule slipped. The room, the instruments and the tests

Blood tests come before surgery, not after: a full blood count and the standard infection screen, taken in Tirana on arrival day or the morning of day 1, with the results read before anaesthetic is given. Anaesthesia is local. Instruments that touch tissue are single-use where single-use exists, including punches and blades, and reusable instruments go through a logged sterilisation cycle.

What the clinic will not do

This is the part most clinic pages leave out, and it is the most useful thing to know about a surgical clinic.

• It will not over-harvest a donor area. A safe session is roughly 2,000 to 4,000 grafts depending on donor density, and taking more than the donor can give thins the back of the head for good. The largest sessions here are 4,500 grafts and it is written on the quote.
• It will not operate on an unsuitable candidate. Diffuse unpatterned thinning, an active scalp condition, alopecia areata or loss that is still moving fast in a patient’s early twenties are all reasons to say no or to say not yet.
• It will not promise a density figure. Coverage can be planned; the number of hairs that survive per square centimetre cannot be promised by anyone, and a clinic that puts a percentage on it is selling rather than planning.
• It will not quote a graft number before seeing the donor area. Any number given before photos is a marketing number.

Where it sits and how patients reach it

Tirana International Airport is 25 minutes away off-peak, and transfers are part of the package rather than an extra line. Most international patients are in the country for the hotel stay. If you are coming from abroad, the trip is set out day by day, and what the package covers is itemised rather than summarised.

Patients who live in Albania see the clinic differently: a consultation this week, surgery within days, and follow-up checks in person instead of by photo.

Aftercare is part of the operation

The clinic keeps your case open for 12 months. That means photo check-ins at the standard milestones, each one answered by the surgeon who will treat you rather than by an automated message, and a direct line for the things that worry people in the first fortnight: swelling on day three, a crust that lifts early, a pimple in the recipient area at week five. Guarantee terms, where they apply, are a written guarantee for life: if transplanted grafts do not grow as planned, the corrective session is covered, though not the natural thinning of hair that was never transplanted.
